Has anyone else seen Breaking Bad?

I had a few friends mention this TV series to me a while ago after they got into it through Netflix (no TV station in the UK has it) and all of them were saying the same thing "You have to see this TV series".

And so, I did.. Many a night of sleeplessness followed

Basically, the series starts with a mild mannered Walter White who is a 50-year old chemistry teacher in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Struggling financially, Walter also works part time in a car wash to make ends meet and we learn pretty much straight away that he is struggling to pay for the mortgage, but just squeaking by. He has a teenage son who is disabled, a wife who we learn is pregnant and then to top it all off, Walter gets diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer. So from episode one, we know his life is probably going to end soon and he has debts he cannot pay and peobably a baby on the way who will suffer if the family home gets repossessed.

    So what does he do?

Well, he decided to start "cooking" crystallized methamphetamine to support his family and get a nest egg ready for when his days are finally numbered. And so the series takes us from a bored, cancer stricken mild mannered nice guy who never did anything wrong, but by the middle of season 5 he is a dangerous criminal who isn't afraid to have somebody murdered if it suits his cause.

And what a hell of a TV series it is!! It is like the Sopranos except the main character is going from a good guy and willingly goes into dark territory. The main actors are all Emmy winners and it shows, the acting is superb. I just think it is a shame that this series has had such little attention.

But.. If you have Netflix, I strongly recommend you give it a go. Currently we are in the middle of season 5 as it has taken a break until early 2013 when it starts back up again.

Haven't had any time to watch much TV. But after your glowing report, I will ask any of my brood to get me the box set for Christmas.:like:

You can get season 1 to 4 in the UK without a problem.. Think I might get it next year just so I can watch it again someday;)

After your heads-up Sean, I have just watched the first episode of Season 1 and I found it very impressive - a excellent start.

The last thing I enjoyed was "The Sopranos" but I thought that series waned as it moved from series to series.
I would love to see something that gets better as the time progresses.

I did not read much of what you wrote previously as I wasn't sure if there was a spoiler in there.

    Thanks for this recommendation :like:

As the series progresses I think you'll agree that both of the actors who play Walter and Jessie really make the show what it is!

Thank you for the recommendation. I'll give it a try.

    (the series, not methamphetamine!)

    (methamphetamine = shabu.)
