Last SuperTyphoon to hit this region, Leyte, centered on Marabut, Samar an hours boat ride away, from our present home, where Cristina & I lived.
    Dec. 2006. 155 MPH = 250Kmh wind's. Typhoon Durianhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Typhoon_Durian.
We have a warning from The US Navy, to-day, to expect a SuperTyphoon on Thursday with predicted wind speed of 130 Knots = 149.8 MPH. Here we go again.!
SO0o Zero communications for a week or 2.
During the last one we were in the Eye of the storm and 1/2 way through there was SILENCE & NO wind for about 5 minutes... Then the wind came again from the opposite direction.
This Typhoon is expected to center 1 hours drive North of our home and will ? is expected to affect all of The Philippine Islands.
    Good luck to all.

The Phils will endure this. I am glad to see in the news that the provinces are now preparing their municipalities for this storm :)

Looks like Tacloban will be in direct line of fire - thank goodness our house over there (just past the San Juanico bridge area) is built of bricks. A worrying time indeed.

Taken from within the above, the below:

"The Philippines lie in the most tropical cyclone-prone waters on Earth, and rarely escape a year without experiencing a devastating typhoon. Usually, these storms impact the northern Philippine island of Luzon, but last year, Earth's deadliest weather disaster of 2012 occurred on the southern Philippine island of Mindanao, where Super Typhoon Bopha struck as a Category 5 super typhoon with winds of 160 mph (260 km/h), on December 3. Bopha made two additional landfalls in the Philippines, on central Visayas and on Palawan, on December 4. The typhoon left 1901 people dead, mostly on the island of Mindanao, making Bopha the 2nd deadliest typhoon in Philippine history. With damages estimated at $1.7 billion, Bopha was the costliest natural disaster in Philippines history. However, that mark was eclipsed just over four months ago, when torrential rains in the wake of Typhoon Trami inundated the capital of Manila and large areas of Luzon, killing 27 people and causing damages estimated at $2.2 billion by Aon Benfield. Lucky Rob, Ours is about 45min in the back waters near Calbiga. Double skinned wood with metal roof. Its solid enough but I'm not expecting good news in a couple of days. God knows how the family are going to get on. I don't think the nipa roofs are going to fair very well!
A not very good picture from the top of the small hill behind our house in the province.

By all accounts, not a lot of higher ground in its path to take the sting out of its tail, this time around.
